Sixteen things I've learned being sixteen

Hello everybody!

Since I’m celebrating my 17th birthday today, on January 31st, I decided to share with you some of the things I’ve learned being 16. Of course I’ve learned a lot more, but the list would be endless if I wrote everything- I can’t even believe so much has happened in such a short time as 16 years.

Listen to your mother

I had to write this as a number one, because we all often underestimate mother’s opinion. But let’s face it- they are almost always right. I don’t know why I always think I know more than a woman who has experienced so much more than I have. In my defence- we learn from mistakes, right?

Best friends exist

I’m hearing from people my age all the time, that there is no such thing as ‘bff’. As there’s an age limit for when you meet your real friends. I’ve been best friends with Katja for 5 years, with SaÅ¡a for 14 years and I’ve been friends with Ajda for 2 years. It’s true- I don’t know if we’ll be friends in 20 years from now, but if I’d have to guess, I’d say there’s a big chance we’ll be ‘friends forever’. You just have to find friends you share your interests with.

Don’t overthink everything

That’s actually an advice for me too, as I literally overthink everything- how I behave, what I do, what I say, what grades I get in school... But I’ve learned not to overthink unimportant things that don’t drastically affect my life.

Don’t take other’s opinion too personal

You sometimes have to hear some constructive criticism, so you can develop personally, but don’t take everyone’s opinion too personal. Those people are often just too disappointed about their life and all they do is making opinion about people they don’t even know. I admit- other’s opinion still affects me sometimes (being called small all the time sucks), but I’ve learned to build walls around me.

Have fun

Enjoying life while being young is okay and so is having fun. Even if you embarrass yourself sometimes (or all the time like me), that’s perfectly fine- those kind of moments are the moments that make your life so much more interesting. And those are the moments you’ll remember when you’ll be old. Can’t wait to see what kind of moments I’ll make posts about when I’ll be 70 years old- being optimistic :).

Travel, try new food, meet new people, do new and exciting things

I travel as much as my finances allow me. But one of my biggest dreams is to travel, be adventurous and spontaneous, even if that means only taking car trips to the nearest countries. I’ll be at least able to say I haven’t lived a boring life.

Think about the future

Even if you’re 16, your motto should not be ‘yolo’. Think about the future, even if only a couple of years, months or just weeks in advance. It’s totally fine to sometimes go with the flow, but you still should have some plans for the future and don’t act like a child all the time. Just in case if you don’t get to marry a billionaire who would buy you three cars and you’ll actually have to work to get money.

Cats will always stand by your side

If you feel like something’s missing in your life, just buy a cat. Cats will always stand by your side and they’re an excellent company- of course if you feed them all the time. Everyone needs at least one (or twenty, you can choose) cute fluffy cat in their life.

If you can’t stop thinking about it...buy it

If you really really really want something, then buy it now or cry later. I’m quite rational when it comes to buying things and I buy a bit more expensive things only if I want them for more weeks or months. But every now and then you can still buy a piece of clothing, perfume, bag you know you won’t even use. Just to look so damn good on your shelf.

Make others happy

Make others happy all the time. Smile at people, say hello, help them with anything, talk to them. Little things like that will make them happy, but it will also be a lot easier for you to find your inner happiness.

Do good and good will come to you

If you do good, good will come to you, there’s nothing more to say.

Relax and don’t stress too much

It seems that stress literally controls my life and I feel like I can’t even relax. But it’s good to read an interesting book from time to time, watch that old cartoon you used to watch when you were little and just do nothing. I can’t even express how much I appreciate those kind of moments.

Learn to accept yourself

This is probably one of the hardest things in my life. Learning to accept myself is still in progress, but I really hope I’ll be able to like my body/ thinking/ personality soon, because this restricts me from doing so many new things, meeting new people, talking to people and staying in touch with them.

Appreciate what you have

Appreciate everything you have and never take anything for granted. I’ve appreciate what I’ve had since I was little and I know my parents work really hard to buy my sister and me new clothes, to buy food and daily supplies, take us to different trips. I know they often didn’t had enough money, but they still bought us that toy that every kid in our school had. So it actually annoys me so much when some teenagers from which I except a certain level of maturity literally cry because they got a black iphone instead of the white one (this is only a generalized example, I certainly don’t have such an opinion on every teenager).

Crying is okay

You should definitely cry your tears out every now and then. I always keep all the bad things in myself for so long and then I suddenly explode and cry for hours and hours. I’ve always thought that crying makes me worthless, inept and somehow I believed that ‘big girls don’t cry’. I still don’t like if anyone sees me at my bottom, when I’m completely out of control over myself and my emotions.

Past is the past

Never stress over the things that have happened in the past. You’ll forget about them sooner or later and they’re definitely not worth worrying about them. I’ve learned that things from the past are never worth your time, you should focus on the future and make sure you do your best at anything.

As you can see, I had to get a lot off my chest during the last minutes as a sixteen year old. I can definitely say I’ve learned so many things in those 16 years and I can’t wait to learn more. And even though I’d like to be forever 16, I know I still have to accomplish so many things, explore the environment in which I live in and I have to develop in so many different areas. And I actually can’t wait to do all that!

I hope you enjoy reading blog from another teenager!

December and January Favourites

Hello everybody!

I was so excited to write about my December favourites when I realised that I can’t even find enough things I’ve loved in December. You could say I’m picky, but I just didn’t want to write about random products just to make a post. So here are my favourite beauty/ fashion/ decorative products and books I’ve been loving through December and January.

Afrodita Cosmetics: Hand & Nail Cream

I mentioned this hand and nail cream in my June Favourites, but I didn’t use it that much in the summer. During the winter my hands crack often and my hands are also quite dry due to using chalk while climbing, so I use it quite a lot now. In addition that it makes my hands so soft, it also smells divine. They don’t sell this cream anymore as it was a limited edition, which makes me quite miserable.

Katy Perry: Royal Revolution

I got this Katy Perry’s Royal Revolution set, which consists of Eau de Parfum, Royal body lotion and Royal shower gel. It smells so divine; top notes (pink freesia, red pomegranate), middle notes (sandalwood, orange flower, jasmine petals), base notes (mystical blackthorn, vanilla orchid). I prefer this perfume than Killer Queen, which is too sweet for me. Maybe I’ll do a comparison between Royal Revolution and Killer Queen in one of the following posts.

Forever 21: Faux leather skirt

I bought this faux leather skirt in Forever 21 in Munich. I still don’t know why we don’t have one in Slovenia- well we don’t have many stores here and that’s not fun at all. It was quite cheap, I think it was around 11 €. I usually wear it with baggy sweaters, because I would feel too girly in anything else.

Made by my mother: Doll

My mother absolutely loves crafting, so in December she made lots of dolls of cloth. I have one on my shelf as it looks so cute; I love the colours and this lovely butterfly on its hair.

Audrey Hepburn: A photographic journey of a beautiful star’s rise to silver- screen icon

Audrey Hepburn is my favourite actress and I admire her talent, beauty, acting...so much! So when I saw this book at the store, I had to buy it. This book is full of her photos from the beginning of her career to the end and there are also details and descriptions of each. I could literally stare at these photos all day long.

Hello everybody!

“You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen...”

As you can tell my 17th birthday is coming soon- it’s only 20 days until January 31st! And because I’m nice, I thought I would make a Birthday wishlist post, so all my relatives and friends won’t have any difficulties in selecting gifts :). I change my mind all the time, so this wishlist is actually completely different from my Christmas one. And because it is my birthday I can exaggerate with the choice, right?

I chose some fashion/ beauty/ home items and accessories that I love at the moment. I actually don’t know how did that happen, but I’ve become obsessed with black in last months. And with high-waisted pants- but I really need another one. There are never enough beauty products I say, especially lipsticks (they are my favourite). I've been looking for a darker shades and this dark plum looks amazing, but I want a bright pink too, because who doesn't need a little bit of pink? Do I even have to explain why I need another nail polish? I really like those glasses- they are cat eye sunglasses, so there is no need for further explanation. And finally, which 17-year old doesn’t want a bench? You can sit on it and stuff and it's cool. A pillow is also on my wishlist, as I like to sleep (who doesn't?) and white pillows look so lovely, especially the ones with quotes on them.

What are some things that are on your wishlist?

I hope you enjoy reading blog from another teenager!

Favourite Winter Nail Polishes

Hello everybody!

I was thinking what should be my first post in 2015. I then decided to write about nail polishes, something I’m really passionate about.

I chose my two favourite winter polishes, Maybelline New York Colorama 23 and Catrice Cosmetics 38 Vino Tinto.

I think I don’t have to explain why I love the first one, because black literally goes with every outfit I wear. I’ve become a bit obsessed with black lately, I just feel like wearing black all the time in the winter. I usually apply this nail polish in two coats, but if I don't want it to look too boring, I will sometimes apply glitter/ glow in the night as a top coat.

I’m just in love with the second one. I really like the shade as it looks like dark plum but when it gets darker, it looks almost black. It’s so easy to apply and it’s only one coat needed, but I apply two or three coats just in case. I use this nail polish throughout the whole year, even though I sometimes forget about it in the summer.

During the festive time I also like to add some glitter, you know- when in doubt, just add glitter!

I hope you all had an amazing New Year’s Eve and I wish you all lots and lots of unforgettable moments in 2015!

I hope you enjoy reading blog from another teenager!

Sara's New Year's Resolutions 2015

Hello everybody!

I usually don’t make New Year’s resolutions, because if I wrote something, I would feel obliged to do it well. There are so many things I want to fulfil in 2015 and that’s why I decided to write some of my New Year’s resolutions 2015 on small pieces of paper and put them in the bottle. I guess it will be quite fun finding out which resolutions I have accomplished and which ones I haven’t in December 2015. I still have four days to add some resolutions, so the list will probably get a bit longer.

My New Year’s resolutions 2015:

Eat healthier: I was eating healthy for more than two years, but in a year/ half year my eating habits deteriorate immensely due to stress of school.

Lose weight: Because of my latest eating habits a gained a few pounds and I literally hate my body at the moment. So I decided to lose some weight and I hope that way I will be able to feel good in my body.

Climb more: My immune system was not on my side this year. I had some serious health problems and I was also constantly ill last month, so I missed a lot of climbing trainings. Because of that I lost my strength, fitness and also will. I hope I’ll be able to climb a lot more, especially outdoors.

Start doing a driving test: Since I won’t be 18, I can’t get a driving license yet, but I can start doing a driving test. I can’t wait for the summer!

Find vacation work: With vacation work I want to save some money for university.

Do research paper: My friend and I decided to do a chemistry research paper until the autumn 2015.

Learn to speak fluent German: I’ve been learning German for 4 years now, and I’m still pretty bad at speaking it. I really want to learn to speak it more fluent.

Have a great success at the end of 2nd grade: At the end of our grades, based on our school marks, we are differently successful. As a perfectionist, I want to have a great success.

Keep scholarship: To keep my Zois scholarship I have to have a great success at the end of 2nd grade, so that’s one of the reasons I will work as hard as I can to be successful.

Be successful in 3rd grade: Because of my health I didn’t go to school a few times this year and that is reflected in my knowledge and school marks. I hope I will be more successful next year, because 3rd grade is important on graduating from secondary school.

Be more independent: Yes, I’m of those girls who can’t spend a day without her friends. I feel kind of empty if I don’t go everywhere with my friends/ classmates/ family and I hate meeting new people. I know I have to change this, because this restricts me to do a lot of things that I want to try.

Be less shy and more self-confident: I’m super shy when it comes to meeting new people and talking to them, so I really want to become more self-confident and first feel better about myself and then also become more open.

Do not worry so much about unimportant things: I worry literally about everything- the way I talk to the others, the way I dress, what school marks I get. I feel stressed all the time because of completely unimportant things and I want to stop doing that.

Do something good for people (all the time): I often feel sorry for myself and don’t see that there are other people who need help too. For the start I think I should be more nice and compliment/ help/ greet random people I meet at the store/ school/ library. It will probably make their day and I will feel much better.

Dye my hair: I have blonde ombré at the moment, but I really need a change. I’m not sure what colour I want to dye my hair, but nothing drastic.

Renovate my room: I have some really big plans for my room, but unfortunately I don’t have enough money. But for sure my room will be completely different in one year!

Watch musical Hair: This is my all time favourite movie! I love love love it and I watch it at least once a year.

Go to at least one concert: I’ve never been to a concert, because everyone I listen to never comes to Slovenia. But I decided to come out of my comfort zone and go to a concert even if I don’t absolutely adore a band/singer.

Learn to do a perfect winged eyeliner: I’m absolutely the worst at applying eyeliner! I’ve started using eyeliner this autumn, because before that I was literally scared to put anything near my eyes. I learned how to do a winged eyeliner, but I still need a lot of practise.

Improve my blog: I know I’m not the best in writing blog posts, so writing is probably one of the main things I want to improve. Also the posts are not always the best, because sometimes I just write something as I feel I have to, even though I’m overloaded with school work. So I’ll try to put more work in posts, even if this means there will be less posts.

And what are your New Year’s resolutions? Do you think you will accomplish them?

I hope you enjoy reading blog from another teenager!
